The four C’s are your natural diamond-buying roadmap, helping you weigh beauty, quality and value in one. This straightforward approach guarantees you choose a diamond that shines with the right balance of price and appearance.
CARAT
Carat weight measures a diamond’s physical weight. Cut determines how well a diamond handles light, directly impacting its brilliance, fire, and sparkle. A precisely cut diamond reflects light back to the eye for maximum brightness, while a poor cut allows light to escape, leaving the diamond looking dull regardless of its size or quality.
CLARITY
Clarity refers to the number, size, and location of natural imperfections within a diamond. Fewer imperfections allow more light to pass through, enhancing sparkle. Because clarity is graded under 10x magnification and no two diamonds are identical, the focus should be on how the diamond appears to the naked eye once set.
COLOR
After cut, color is one of the most noticeable of the 4 Cs. It is graded from D (colorless) to Z (light color), with D–F considered rare and highly valued, while G–J offers a strong balance of appearance and value. As color becomes more visible from K onward, tone becomes a matter of personal preference.
CUT
Cut is the most important factor in a diamond's beauty. It determines how well the diamond reflects light and how much it sparkles. Only Round Brilliant diamonds are scientifically graded for cut, while all other shapes, known as "fancy cuts" (like Oval, Cushion and Radiant), don't receive the same grading.
