Meet Matthew, one of the newest members of our team. He’s been working with luxury timepieces and fine jewelry for years. You could say his is an inherited passion. Growing up, it was Matthew’s father who instilled in him a love of detail and unique design.
“I chose these pieces with my dad in mind. He can be meticulous about what he wears, which makes shopping for him a fun challenge. I’ve got a lot of practice.”
Here, Matthew shares with us his favorite pieces, perfect for any dad.
The Best Gifts for Dad
Men’s Bracelet: Stephen Webster
Matthew’s first pick is a handsome beaded bracelet from the Beasts of London collection by Stephen Webster. “[Stephen Webster’s] designs are so unique and masculine. The beasts of London collection, the large clasp on this bracelet, it’s perfect for anyone.” Outfitted in sterling silver and coral beads, with a hawkish eyed raven holding the clasp in his mouth; it’s a surprisingly affordable find for such detail.
Knife: William Henry
Always ready with an apropos anecdote, Matthew relates, “My first pocket knife, my uncle bought it for me, and he warned me not to slash my hand with it. So, I accidently slashed my hand with it, immediately.” Not good. Fortunately, that didn’t deter his love for collector’s knives. “I chose this knife because of its classic wood handle. I also love the color of the blade because of the copper that’s hammered into it. It’s actually folded and hammered down, same technique ancient Japanese swordsmiths used.”
Timepiece: Rolex Air-King
Every dad loves a great timepiece! “What I love about the Rolex Air-King is the dial. It’s actually inspired by the gauge of the Bloodhoud SSC, a record-breaking supersonic car. When this watch was first released, my dad loved the color scheme, which is unique for a Rolex. It’s just an iconic design.
At 40mm it’s something that any man can wear. It’ll fit under a shirt cuff or look good with a pair of jeans.”
Timepiece: Tudor Black Bay
“This is the new Tudor Heritage Black Bay, released at this year’s Baselworld. It’s the first Black Bay with a date window. A great feature! There’s so much character with this watch. I love the riveted bracelet which, because it’s brushed, would camouflage any scratches. The dial resembles a gilt dial. It boasts some really great vintage appeal, paying tribute to Tudor’s great timepieces of the past. This is a watch someone can wear as hard as their steel watches.
Not to mention, the self-winding caliber with a 70-hour power reserve ensures the wearer can put it down on Friday and pick it up on Monday before walking straight into the office.
The caseback has room for a personal message, which Razny Jewelers can engrave. That type of detail would make the watch an heirloom, something that could be handed down one day.”
Timepiece: Tag Heuer Monaco
“Summertime means racing and what’s the ultimate racer’s watch? The Monaco! This is the watch worn by Steve McQueen in the movie Le Mans. Surprisingly, it was not originally intended to be a racer’s watch. The square case chronograph, a first for the industry, was designed with the architect in mind. Today, however, it’s known for the movie and the man that made it synonymous with racing.”
